As the founder of Tesla or SpaceX, you may know Ellon Musk. Particularly because of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launching the Bangabandhu Satellite (1), you should know the Elon Musk. He has several other technology companies. Today’s topic is on Human Brain vs Computer chip developing by Neuralink.

Some of them dig the soil and make a tunnel, and some people are trying to figure out what happens inside the brain. Neuralink is one of these company of Elon Musk. This company is not much familiar. This is founded on 2016 However, recently Neuralink has announced a new device and the world now started to know this company.

Neuralinkhas developed a brain-machine interface. In simple words, they will insert some connectors / threads in the brain like their invented thread. Then those cables (threads) will be attached to a small chip on the skull.

How the brain and computer chip will work

The chip will send various instructions signals from the brain to a computer or smartphone through a device connected to the ear. And using this signal, paralyzed patients will be able to control their hands by not just touching their hands, even without any sound. If this is truly possible for humans then there is no doubt that it will change the world. And that’s why so much talk about Elon Musk and Neuralink.

I am not telling that there is no brain machine interface like this at present, nor has it been studied by other companies. But, the biggest progress of their research is that they have made the type of thread that is so fine to insert inside the brain. And it will not harm the human brain. So, neuralink is ahead of other brain machine interfaces.

According to one of their studies, there are 3072 electrodes in all in one array of such 96 fibers/thread. They can transport a lot of data together. The threads diameter is only 4 to 6 micrometres. That means they are far thinner than human hair.

In addition to these fibers, they have developed another device that can insert these fibers into the human brain automatically. Although their research has been a secret so far, Elon Musk highlighted their progress in a presentation last week. Elon Musk said that the purpose of this event, Neuralink, was not to create any discussion, but to encourage talented staff to join Neuralink.

Now they are conducting research on various animals in the lab. Musk points out that with by this technology a monkey has been able to control the computer. Research on rats is underway. Neuralink also has an iPhone app.

Researchers at Neuralink hope that in the near future, they will be able to attach these fibers through a laser beam inside the brain where the drill machine is currently drilling for the same purpose. Even Musk is telling that they will be able to enter the human brain by the end of next year. That’s why a robot has been created that will perform these surgeries.

As I said earlier, this brain-machine interface is nothing new, though because of the goodness of Neuralink and the popularity of Elon Musk, it is now going viral again. Scientists were able to move the cursor of a computer with the help of his mind by first applying a brain to a spinal cord paralyzed patient named Matthew Nagel. At 20, he was able to play pong games on his computer only with his mind. 

However, the technology used by scientists at the time was BrainGate, which was first developed at Brown University in the United States. In other words, neuralink did not come quickly, but behind it, research and education of the era of the era were working.

But yes, the old BrainGate technology used only 120 electrodes called the Utah Array. Neuralink, on the other hand, uses more than 3,000 electrodes.

With the artificial intelligence, the idea that people do not fall behind in competition is working behind this Neuralink project.
